Pesce's Garden is a home that has been in the Pesce family for generations. The house was originally built in the mid 1800's for John T. Faxon to be used as a boarding house. John T. Faxon was a pioneer of Sonora and the owner of the Saratoga pocket mine. The home was sold a few times over the years and in 1924 was purchased by Giacomo and Clelia Pesce. They had a daughter Mary who remembers planting 350 grapevines on the hill behind the house and below the mine. The Pesce family was known for raising and selling their fruits and vegetables as well as making homemade wine from the vineyards growing around their house. Over the years, the land was sold off until all that remains is an acre the house sits on today. However, the land still boasts an over 100 year old grapevine at the front of the house as well as a very old wisteria.
In 1979, after her mother's death, Mary and her husband, James Nelson acquired the house and property. In 2003, Mark and Judy Pesce bought the home from Mary and James. The house has been restored and upgraded.
Pesce's Garden is an approximately 1800 sq ft house with a living room, dining room, kitchen, breakfast nook, 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, front porch, patio and a large front deck (10ft x 70ft) overlooking the garden. The garden is full with critters and birds and a family of squirrels that visits often. The house sleeps up to 10 people (each bedroom has at least one queen sized bed) and is fully equipped with all the amenities to make your stay convenient. The kitchen has a microwave, dishwasher, stove, juicer, coffee makers, toaster, dishes, silverware, glasses (including wine glasses) and pots and pans.
